Vintage 2018

“Vintage 2018 has produced some excellent quality, consistent, varietal wines!” – Liz Richardson, Winemaker

Like most of Australia, the 2017/18 growing season was hot and dry.

This meant that there were relatively few interruptions to intake and the warm weather did accelerate ripening at some points during the harvest, but these conditions were managed well, using timely and efficient vineyard irrigations.

Vintage started on the 24th of January with some local Murray Darling Chardonnay harvested for table wine. Aromatic whites ripened on schedule not long after, and across the board show exceptional varietal character and intensity.

For the reds, the Merlot came in earlier than is usually expected with Shiraz and Cabernet competing to be the bookend at the other end of the red intake.

Without the usual interruption of rain in February or March, harvest progressed well, ending Vintage 2018 on the 18th April.

Although crops were down overall across both reds and whites, we have overall approached historical average.  The reduction in crop load resulted in an increase in quality and some great ripe flavours across both red and white varietals.

Overall, Vintage 2018 has produced some excellent quality, consistent, varietal wines!
